Warm Weather Treat to Try: A Boozy Affogato

Affogato, n: A delicious Italian treat consisting of ice cream or gelato topped with a shot of espresso. But you're an adult who deserves the drunker finer things in life, so why not bring alcohol into the mix? 

We chatted with Top Chef alum and winemaker Fabio Viviani to get the best pairings for your new favorite dessert/snack/concoction.

The dark fruit flavors of the Cabernet pair perfectly with coffee ice cream.

Try: Fabio Viviani 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon

A fruit-forward blend with sweet flavors pairs well with a peach ice cream.

A big, bold red needs something sweet and rich.

A "fun riff on a root beer float," says Viviani.

A citrus-y, light pinot balances well with the nutty coconut ice cream.

"Sauvignon Blanc goes perfectly with a tart sorbet because of the lemon-lime zest flavor profile of the wine," says Viviani. Enough said.

Try: Emmolo Sauvignon Blanc

"Merlot is more juicy and jammy, so I'd pair with a fruit-based ice cream," advises Viviani. 

Try: 2012 Duckhorn Vineyards Merlot

If a chardonnay pairs perfectly with buttered popcorn, you can bet your ass a buttery, creamy chardonnay goes great with butter pecan ice cream.
