4 Timeless Fall Fashion Trends I Wear Every Year
From trench coats to loafers, here are my most reliable fall-ready pieces.

In my 15+ years of writing or contributing to fall trend reports, I’ve seen a lot of things come in and out of style. Red tights, for example: Huge in the early ’00s, quickly abandoned years later, and now back-ish? Same with capris, a cut I am still considering but really don’t know if I can bring myself to try. The following four trends, though, are ones I’ve always loved—and probably always will love.
Suede
I’ve only recently come around to liking leather—before that, I was a suede girly through and through. There’s something so rich about the depth and texture it can add to a look, especially if your piece comes in a nice chocolate brown.
Trench Coats
Barn jackets and chore coats may be trending now, but trench coats will always stand the test of time. That doesn’t mean they have to be “quiet” or boring. There are so many fresh cuts on the market that I’ve had my eye on, they may find their way to my closet soon enough.
Boat Shoes/ Loafers
It’s clear that Sperry is doing a push amongst some noted content creators and writers right now, but I’m finding myself…influenced. Maybe it’s my Virginia roots, but I’ll always love loafers and boat shoes. I’m happy they’re back in style, but they never really left as far as I’m concerned. Sure, they can read preppy, but with the right styling they can also be funky, cool, and dare I say, ironic.
Navy Blazers
I love a navy blazer, specifically, because it doesn’t feel as serious or severe as a black one. I’m currently wearing one with green Nili Lotan Shon pants, which feels Americana but not so on the nose. I can also see it with ripped blue jeans or white shorts when it gets hotter again.
