3 Rising Trends That Will Still Work Past Their Expiration Date
You'll wear these viral styles on repeat.
Friends! If you follow me on Instagram, you know micro-trend culture is not my bag. It landed on my 2025 out list, in fact. I much prefer slow trends, ones that may not even be “trends,” but are more a stylish way of dressing that still work past their expected expiration date. Last year’s “Mob Wife fur coat,” for example, is simply this year’s…chocolate brown fur coat. (The coat still looks good no matter what you call it.) Which brings me to trends the fashion team is calling for 2025 thus far. A lot of these looks have come before (that’s a good thing!), with a different name or slightly different aesthetic. The following are my top three favorites—ones you can shop now and confidently wear for years to come.
—Nikki Ogunnaike, Editor-in-Chief
Aquatic-Inspired Fashion
Whether you give sailor on the sea or mermaid-core, try this trend with, well, less trendy items, like peacoats, striped shirts, and swimwear that could double as a top.
Mocha Mousse
Pantone named “Mocha Mousse” the color of the year, but to be frank, that is simply…light brown. A beautiful light brown, yes, but brown nonetheless. In short: This color will never go out of style! And because it’s currently so trendy, there are plenty of options to shop.
Boho
If Nicole Richie’s style in the mid-2000s has always been deeply important to you, get excited. Boho is firmly back, with pieces that feel less '60s/'70s cosplay and much more refined.
