At the start of every season, I often refresh my shoe collection. Now that autumn is upon us, I’ve bid farewell to my flip-flops and strappy sandals to make room in my closet for polished, closed-toed alternatives equipped to handle brisk temperatures. My sights are set on rich-looking shoes that will earn me extra style points.

Fortunately for me, the Fall 2024 runways were scattered with luxe shoe trends that offered plenty of inspiration. Gucci showcased heeled loafers drenched in tasteful shades of mulled wine and dark chocolate. Ralph Lauren embraced the suede trend with sumptuous knee-high boots. Sandy Liang made a strong case for wearing Mary Janes during the colder months by styling them with fall essentials like cozy turtleneck sweaters and snug tweed jackets.

Guided by the styles above that scream “quiet luxury,” I’ve created a wishlist of rich-looking shoes to spruce up any fall outfit. And given that I’m on a strict budget (my online shopping habits have recently got the best of me), I’ve ensured that every must-have item doesn’t exceed $500. Keep scrolling, and you’ll find reasonably priced pieces like slingback heels from Sam Edelman for $63 and ankle boots designed by Staud for $170.

Ahead is your blueprint for looking wealthy without spending a fortune.

Ladylike Kitten Heels

Round out your look with low-to-the-ground heels that convey a poised tone.

There’s something so luxurious about stilettos designed with modest heels. Possibly, the fact that posh fashion icons like Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn once championed this charming style alongside tailored suits and glamorous gowns. If you’re feeling prim and proper, take a pair of dainty kitten heels for a spin. Sam Edelman, Vince, Aeyde, and Madewell favor pointy pumps with sleek slingback silhouettes, while Stuart Weitzman and Jeffrey Campbell offer closed-back and slip-on versions.

Lustrous Loafers

Whenever I want to enhance my fall work outfits, I can always count on preppy-style loafers to get the job done. Especially when teamed with a sharp blazer and tailored trousers, a pair of loafers can bring an extra ritzy feel to any office-friendly uniform. And, of course, these shoes can function beyond corporate settings, too (just look at Marie Claire’s loafer outfits guide for reference). Styles from G.H. Bass, Odissì, Tory Burch, and J.Crew amp up the elegance with standout features like tassels, gold hardware, and ruched fabric. If you’d prefer a bit more height, consider lofty options from Franco Sarto and Coach made with chunky lug heels.

Elevated Boots

Powerful heeled boots look wealthy on their own, but give your outfit an all-black treatment and you'll look like you've just jumped a tax bracket.

This season’s roundup of boot trends includes a range of shoes, from grungy moto boots to utilitarian-inspired combat boots. Out of all the sought-after styles, sharp-heeled boots earn the top spot in the rich-looking category. Larroudé, Schutz, Alohas, and Dolce Vita endorse knee-high shafts demonstrating a dose of drama. If ankle-skimming cuffs are more your thing, Staud and Vagabond have just what you need.

Classic Mary Janes

You don't have to wear heels to look classy. A pair of flat Mary Janes will do the trick.

Mary Janes aren't new to the fashion scene—these soft and sweet shoes have been around for decades. Nevertheless, they’re having a major moment in 2024. Brands such as Vince Camuto, Rag & Bone, & Other Stories, and Nine West have caught onto the demure trend, crafting their designs with graceful heels and buckled straps. Other labels like Loeffler Randall and Tony Bianco have put a ballet-flat twist on the look with rounded toe caps and leveled soles.

Upscale Sneakers

For the gals out there who despise wearing heels, don't worry. You can still look rich in a pair of sneakers.

Some might say that sneakers are inherently laid-back, but I’d argue that plenty of high-end designer sneakers are out there. Shoes from Dries Van Noten and Adidas do just that with sophisticated suede uppers. Meanwhile, New Balance, Axel Arigato, Puma, and Veronica Beard achieve the same refinement level with neutral colorways that are beyond easy to style. Bottom line? If you want to give your sky-high heels a break, the sneakers below will have you covered.
