Interns Cry, Scowl, Run in Heels in First Episode of Running in Heels
Which intern are you rooting for? Samantha, barefoot & nervous newbie. Talita, pup-toting bad speller from LA. Ashley, confident & tardy ticket hoarder. View ResultsCreate a Poll There's only one way to get to the top, and ...
There's only one way to get to the top, and last night I tuned in to watch three girls at the bottom in the first episode of our reality show, Running in Heels. If you didn't get a chance to tune in, the show follows three fresh-faced Marie Claire interns, Talita, Samantha, and Ashley, from our office to the red carpet as they struggle to make it in the world of fashion mags.
And struggle they do, pretty much as soon as they set foot in their apartment (not only would tons of people kill for their jobs at MC, but anyone who's lived in a shoebox in NYC would also kill for that apartment!) Within minutes of meeting each other, Talita's purse-dog Chanel relieves herself on their hardwood floors--perhaps as a way to foreshadow the drama to come?
With many past internships under my belt, I totally felt for Samantha when she lost her cool on her first day at MC, picking up outfits for editor-in-chief Joanna Coles. I've definitely had the WTF? moment that Sam did ("there are three doors with the same street address!")--and I know it's the name of the show, but girl, don't actually run errands in heels! A pair of flats to change into are a frenzied intern's best friend.
Meanwhile, Talita lucks out and heads backstage at New York Fashion Week to interview models--but then commits an intern FAIL of epic proportions when she hands in an assignment filled with spelling errors.
On the other side of town, there's much eye-rolling and complaining coming from Ashley, who strolled in late to her first assignment, helping out at a shoot. Her spirits were lifted somewhat when she got two tickets for a runway show that night, but it was at the expense of Samantha, who wasn't invited as Ashley's +1. Silent looks of death were exchanged between the three before they toasted at the party thrown for MC's new fashion director Nina Garcia (at this point, Samantha has had it with shoes all together, and decided to go barefoot)--but much to my surprise, I've yet to hear one of them utter the reality show adage, "I'm not here to make friends." Maybe next week?
