29 Items Marie Claire Editors Wear on Repeat
You're going to want everything.
Everyone has that one item in their closet that they grab more frequently than anything else—even fashion magazine editors. Whether it's a basic white tee or a super-trendy jumpsuit, our editors share their favorite products in our biweekly series about the items we wear on repeat. Ahead, we rounded up the best of the best, so prepare yourself (and your credit card) for some guilt-free shopping.
My Tory Sport Track Pants
"My confidence doubles when I'm wearing an outfit I feel great in, but the look also has to be comfy and chic. This is where my Tory Sport track pants come in. I had been eyeing these beauties for a while, so one day I finally gave in and ordered them online. I'm so glad I did. They are my work-from-home, errand-running, and couch-lounging go-to pants. I usually pair these with a flowy top or a sweater if the air conditioning is running on high." —Susanna Hayward, associate art director
My SLVRLAKE Straight Leg Jeans
"I have only been in a relationship with my SLVRLAKE London jeans for a little over a year, but it was love at first sight. As a self-proclaimed 'denim enthusiast,' I felt it in my bones that I struck gold when I slipped these bottoms on. The high-rise, straight leg silhouette is an updated, cooler version of the skinny jean. The style elongates my legs and they're equally as comfortable as they are flattering." —Taylor Ayers, fashion assistant
My Vintage Coach Scooter Bag
"With so much Slack action, texts, and screen time throughout the workday, the last thing I want to do is think about my phone, so my red vintage 'Scooter' bag by Coach is the perfect vessel to give me some distance from temptation. It's accessible enough, however, to snap open if I hear something urgent. The bag fits my keys and could probably accommodate a card holder or a tiny wallet, too." —Bridget Burns, visuals editor
My Adidas Track Pants
"Pre-isolation-orders, these pants were literally one of the most versatile pieces in my closet, and I dressed them up and down. The wide legs give me the freedom to wear them with heels, which makes me feel like a stallion walking on stilts, or with sneakers for a more chill look. Because of these cool-girl pants, I had my first-ever Getty Images debut during New York Fashion Week (!!!). They're the quintessential, effortlessly stylish IDGAF pants, which is the vibe I'm always going for." —Maya Allen, beauty editor
My All Saints Leather Jacket
"My dream jacket dropped nearly 50 percent in price, and the 'purchase' click never felt easier. More than a year later, I can confidently say my buy was well worth it. I wear my jacket in lieu of a blazer at the office, adding edge to otherwise buttoned-up workwear. I sport it with jeans and white sneakers for a casual Saturday brunch. I layer it over a floral dress on crisp spring days. I layer it under a puffer coat on chilly winter nights. Some might say leather jackets are a seasonal token style, but I disagree: Styled right, my leather jacket remains a go-to any time of the year." —Megan DiTrolio, associate editor
My Entireworld Sweatsuit
"This Entireworld sweatsuit is super comfortable, lightweight, and has a flattering fit. I have worn it to the airport and to brunch. It quickly became my weekend uniform, and it is now my quarantine go-to. Pair with gold hoops and patterned socks, and voilá! Chic leisurewear. Yellow has also been said to be the color of hope and happiness, of fun and cheer—all of which I've been diligently trying to maintain." —Katie Attardo, accessories editor
My High-Waisted COS Trousers
"If I have an important meeting or work event, you can bet I'm wearing my high-waisted COS culottes. Though, I'm just as likely to be wearing them if I'm having dinner at a trendy new restaurant. They elevate a T-shirt (like the one I'm wearing in this picture, which I could also write an Item I Wear on Repeat column about) and give heft to a silk cami (toss a leather jacket over my shoulders and, trust me, the look is *chef's kiss*). The material is never hot, but thick enough that I can wear the pants year-round. In the winter I pair with knee-high boots and a cashmere sweater. They truly are the perfect pair of black pants: classic with a twist." —Danielle McNally, deputy editor
My Catbird Stacking Rings
"After a quarter-century of losing pieces I couldn't keep on my person at all times, I found the solution: My beloved Catbird stacking rings. The beauty of these rings? They go with everything. You can wear them every day. I wear between three and seven daily. (Even Meghan Markle loves them!) You can pair them with statement jewelry and a gown for a wedding, with ripped shorts and string bracelets for a festival, or on their own for the office." —Jenny Hollander, director of content strategy
My Rimowa Suitcase
"After years of using junky luggage with broken wheels, unwieldy handles, and uncooperative zippers, I finally woke up to the world of investment luggage. Enter: my trusty Rimowa Essential Lite suitcase. With 121 years behind them, the German-born brand has a rich history of perfecting every detail on their suitcases—from their signature grooved aluminum exteriors to the 360-degree spinner wheels that will keep up with you as you sprint to your connection. For a petite lady like me, one of the real selling points was its light weight, a necessity when climbing subway stairs and navigating baggage claim." —Sara Holzman, fashion features associate
My Gap 1969 Denim Jacket
"This jacket has the all-important Very First Spot in my closet because I reach for it—I'd estimate—once a week. I wear it winter, spring, summer, and fall. I wear it to the office, over cocktail dresses, with minis, maxis, shorts, and pants. Name a thing it can’t be worn with. You can’t. Because even a Canadian tuxedo is no longer a faux pas." —Danielle McNally, deputy editor
My HOKA X Outdoor Voices Sneakers
"Aesthetically speaking, the HOKA x OV sneakers have instantly kicked all my isolation outfits up a notch, regardless of formality. They give my sundresses a sporty spin, complement my athleisure looks, and add flair to my preppy new shorts. They're functional too. They support my feet when I take my periodic, socially-distanced walks to my favorite neighborhoods and are equally as comfy to wear around the apartment to give my arches a break (after the shoes are sanitized, of course). And they've revolutionized my indoor workouts, which are growing more and more frequent." —Taylore Glynn, associate beauty and health editor
My DL1961 Denim Skirt
"In addition to the cute distressed finishes at the bottom of DL1961's skirt, there are two large pockets in the front and back to put your phone and credit cards in. Because of its somewhat surprising super high-waisted fit, I've been able to wear the skirt with a crop top to the bar, or a tucked-in tee to the office. It's not a coincidence that some of my best pictures are taken in this skirt."
—Rachel Epstein, associate editor
My Everlane T-Shirt
"When I transitioned from the fashion of my youth (tight, a lot of poly blend, much too trendy) to the style I have now, I began treating clothes as investments. My New Year's resolution is to practice conscious consumerism, so when I buy something, I want it to last for years. But the great thing about this shirt is that it’s not even that expensive." —Katherine J. Igoe, contributing editor
My Vintage Floral Mini Dress
"This vintage '90s dress is a miracle in more ways than one. I have a decent rack and hips much wider than my waist, which makes it tough to find formfitting dresses and tops that don't pull or tug in all the wrong places. (Button-down shirts? A no for me.) But this piece fit differently from shoulder to hem. The cap sleeves hit my arms at the perfect angle while the v-neck shows off my collar bones nicely and displays just enough cleavage for a date, but also goes unnoticed at the office." —Taylore Glynn, associate beauty and health editor
My Valentino Tango Pumps
"I bought these Valentino Mary Janes nearly five years ago after seeing my former boss at ELLE.com frequently mix and match them with a closetful of outfits. Not only have they held up in the half-decade I've been wearing them, thanks to the sturdy patent leather exterior, but they also still garner me compliments almost every time I wear them. Unlike the heels that live under my desk, the Tango pumps are commute-friendly thanks to the solid two-and-a-half inch block heel and secure ankle strap, which means I can wear them straight from my apartment to the office (plus any stops along the way) without having to do a sidewalk shoe-swap." —Sally Holmes, executive editor
My Altuzarra Checkered Midi Skirt
"I found my favorite piece in my closet—this Altuzarra wrap-effect checkered midi skirt—at a sample sale for less than $200. It originally cost more than $900. I love this skirt for everything it offers: It's high waisted with a midi cut, which I find to be the perfect length for me. (Over the years, I've learned that longer lengths can be sexy, especially with a good slit.) The wrap-effect style, like that of a wrap dress, is universally flattering. (I've had friends try on the skirt and they also look amazing in it.)" —Taylor Ayers, fashion assistant
My Aurélie Bidermann Peal Earrings
"Finding the perfect pair of pearls is a challenge. I was looking for something chic, but not too classic. My hunt led me to Net-a-Porter and it was there I serendipitously found the pearls of my dreams from Aurélie Bidermann. I had no idea just how much wear they would get. I've dressed them up with silk gowns at weddings and paired them down with my signature culotte/sweater combo for work and group dinners. I wear them so much that my friends and coworkers have actually asked me if I own any other earrings. (I do, but these are my favorite.)" —Sara Holzman, fashion features associate
My Vintage Duster Jacket
"One of my favorite purchases from eBay is a beige vintage Calvin Klein raincoat that was described as a 'duster' jacket. I don't look good in traditional khaki, of the greyish-greenish-tan variety—it brings out the pink in my ruddy complexion. Still, I loved the idea of a duster. I wanted something long and simple, without epaulettes and strange flaps or a double breast closure, which looked busy to me. After seven years, I still adore the jacket, and wear it when the temperatures get over 60 degrees. It's loose fitting and there is a crinkly texture to the lightweight cotton blend that gives it that purposefully rumpled look." —Bridget Burns, visuals editor
My Prescription Ray Ban Glasses
"the best part about my glasses isn't the timeless look or the ability to see clearly. My favorite function is the blue light filtering lenses that let me stare at a computer screen all day without the negative effects of the artificial light. (If buying prescription glasses, ask Ray-Ban about the add on.) For years, I had been suffering from daily headaches. It became so bad that some days I would wake up with a headache and no matter how many pain relievers I took, balms I applied to my temples, or mugs of stress-relieving tea I drank, I would go to bed with the same headache. The first day I wore my new glasses to the office, I didn't get a headache." —Morgan McMullen, visual designer
My Zara Snakeskin Booties
"I immediately fell in love with the white-and-black snakeskin pattern—the print is eye-popping, on-trend, versatile, and just my kind of vibe. Once I realized that I could wear these with much of my wardrobe (which sadly is all-black with a few pops of color) and that they would singlehandedly elevate each outfit from a look to a lewk, I was sold. I ended up loving these booties so much that I wore them to my first day of my dream job at Marie Claire. I paired them with a timeless vintage jumpsuit I found thrifting in my hometown of Portland, Oregon." —Maya Allen, beauty editor
My Free People Velvet Trench Coat
"My coatless self couldn't believe how lucky I was when I opened the box containing Free People's beautiful trench coat (a gift from the brand). With a shiny navy/charcoal gray velvet exterior, the coat looks (and feels!) like a dream. It has pockets at the hips, and could easily be taken for a duster if you don't utilize the three embroidered metal buttons. The best part? When you button it up, there's still a slit at the bottom, giving passersby a peek at the paisley interior lining. Since the coat became mine, I've worn it to my team's holiday party, to dinner with friends, to the bar, you name it. And, I receive compliments on it every time." —Rachel Epstein, associate editor
My Aritzia Slip Dress
"There are a few pieces in my closet that I refuse to retire with the change of seasons. While I stow away my black jeans during summer and open-toe sandals from December through March, my slip dresses, on the other hand, always remain on hangers." —Marina Liao, fashion news editor
My Ralph Lauren Corduroy Blazer
"I've worn the blazer countless times. It's gone with me on interviews (including one of my interviews at Marie Claire!), to happy hours, and to the office. I love to throw it on over a t-shirt and jeans in the fall when it's gotten just chilly enough outside that leaving my apartment with bare arms gives me goosebumps. Or to layer it under a wool coat come winter." —Morgan McMullen, visual designer
My Diane Von Furstenberg Wool Camel Coat
"This DVF coat has been my winter go-to for the office, dinner with friends, and even pairs nicely over a hoodie and track pants for that effortless street style grocery-store-run ensemble. It makes me feel chic and put together. Aside from my cozy parkas, this is the only coat that keeps me warm in the winter, and it can easily transition for spring and fall, too. Unfortunately my current DVF style is sold out, but you should snag a similar style of your own. Trust me when I say everyone's wardrobe is in need of a classic camel coat." —Chelsea Hall, assistant fashion and beauty editor
My Mavi High-Rise Fringe Skinny Jeans
"It's been a little over two months since I first tried on the jeans and I have no shame admitting that I wear them once (twice?) a week. The Mavi bottoms have made appearances at a Jets game, a Rangers game, at my favorite bar, and at the office. They're so comfy, I've even worn them on a plane. The eye-catching fringe detail doesn't make it particularly easy to disguise how frequently I wear them, but I can't be bothered—I've finally found jeans that I want and feel comfortable enough to wear. Younger me would be thrilled." — Rachel Epstein, associate editor
My Misha Nonoo Husband Shirt
"I did not buy this white button-down because Meghan Markle wore this white button-down. I bought this white button-down because when I saw Meghan Markle wearing it, I immediately realized it is The Perfect White Button-Down. I'd been on a hunt for the PWBD for several years (truly, at least five), with zero success. There was always something off about every shirt I tried on or bought-and-returned: too sheer, too boxy, too girly. Misha Nonoo's shirt is none of those things." —Sally Holmes, executive editor
My Vintage Chanel Necklace
"My vintage Chanel necklace is one of my most prized possessions. Every time I put it on, I automatically feel chic. (Strangers even stop me on the street to compliment me on this fabulous piece.) The magical quality lies in the necklace's ability to instantly make any outfit feel fashun. Unlike clothing, a great accessory can also be worn daily, if you so please. I've worn the Chanel necklace to dress up a casual t-shirt and jeans combo. I've also worn it with a gown to a black-tie event. The necklace is bold yet versatile and has become a staple in my wardrobe. It is one of my signature pieces." —Shelby Comroe, fashion assistant
My Givenchy Antigona Bag
"Despite its compact appearance, the Antigona actually holds a lot of stuff. Over the years, I've learned it can carry objects like a water bottle, an umbrella, a book, workout clothes, or even a pair of sneakers (a necessity during New York Fashion Week) without losing its structured shape. The handbag, which has a detachable strap, can also be worn multiple ways, though my favorite is across the body. It has survived being dropped on the floor and being soaked by the occasional rain (and snow) storm. The pebble leather even conceals all the scratches the bag's accumulated." —Marina Liao, fashion news editor
