The Early Aughts Boho Trend Is Staging Its 2025 Comeback
Frilly lace dresses, suede, and fringe have returned.

Spring 2025’s fashion forecast includes more than a few trends that tap into nostalgia, from ladylike 1960s-era garments that appear to have been plucked from Jackie Kennedy’s archival closet to 80s-inspired accessories that embrace a maximalist attitude. Another vintage style making a resurgence is the boho fashion trend of the ‘70s, which has been steadily crescendoing, like the slow-burning melody of a Rolling Stones anthem.
While boho mania definitively peaked in the early aughts, its most recent revival can be traced back to Chloé’s Fall 2024 show. The Parisian label’s new creative director, Chemena Kamali, championed the trend with ruffled blouses drenched in earthy tones and frilly dresses stitched with lace and chiffon. Alongside the runway, VIP attendees sat in the front row wearing the brand’s coveted wooden wedges. The entire spectacle made the message loud and clear, “Boho is back.”
At Chloé’s Fall 2024 show, guests swooned over boho-inspired ensembles.
Fast-forward to Spring 2025, fashion month, and a handful of labels are also leaning into a free-spirited approach. Isabel Marant owns this aesthetic with her slouchy boots, fringe jackets, and suede shoulder bags trimmed with gold studs. Ulla Johnson advocates breezy sheer maxi skirts and tiered eyelet dresses. Meanwhile, Ralph Lauren's fringe-adorned duster could have easily been worn by a festival-goer at Woodstock.
Beyond the runways, stylish celebrities are also re-familiarizing themselves with boho. However, this time, they’re not necessarily following the Olsen twins’ Y2K version of the trend, which involved controversial styles like wide-brimmed fedoras and belted dresses worn over flared jeans. Instead, A-listers like Jennifer Lopez and Kaia Gerber offer their own personal takes with gauzy, loud luxury playsuits with billowing sleeves and diaphanous blouses that bridge nostalgia with contemporary twists.
If you've also been looking to experiment with the old-school boho fashion trend, read on. Marie Claire’s curated shopping guide has everything you need to get into the groove.
Boho Tops
On Zimmermann's Spring 2025 runway, the label demonstrated the ethereal appeal of ruffled boho blouses.
The more flouncy a boho top is, the better. Opt for fluid fabrics made with playful ruffles, delicate lace, or whimsical floral patterns. Alternatively, shirts covered in rustic shades or denim will also give off a vintage vibe.
Boho Bottoms
Ralph Lauren paid homage to bohemian style with a cascading skirt that still managed to feel refreshingly modern.
Ditch your figure-hugging skinny jeans and skin-tight leggings for flowy bottoms. Now is the perfect time to invest in flared jeans, tiered and denim maxi skirts, and roomy pants with a laid-back disposition.
Boho Dresses
According to Zimmermann, the best way to style a frilled boho dress is with a wrap belt, beachy sandals, and a handheld bag to match.
With their roomy silhouettes, these dresses don't align with stuffy dress codes. They celebrate freedom, the freedom that goes along with relaxed warm-weather activities like garden parties or dinner al fresco.
Boho Bags
Suede accessories are not new for Isabel Marant, but for Spring 2025, the designer amped up the embellishments with eye-catching studs.
If you haven’t yet heard, the fashion crowd can’t seem to get enough of velvety suede bags. Pick one from the assortment below, or consider other styles that are woven with neutral-toned leather or crafted with textured raffia.
Boho Shoes
During Chloé's Spring 2025 fashion show, the brand upgraded its classic wedges with jelly-like straps.
Thanks to Chloé, sky-high wedges are so back. That said, there are plenty of other boho options that deserve a spot in your footwear lineup—like suede clogs and woven ballet flats, slingbacks, and mules.
Boho Jewelry
Ralph Lauren decided to take a "more is more" approach with beaded necklaces and massive drop earrings.
In the world of boho jewelry, maximal accessories reign supreme. Test-drive the look with beaded bracelets, layered necklaces, and even feathered earrings. If your style errs more on the minimalist side, gold hoops and stone studs will also do the trick.
Boho Outerwear
Acne Studios gave the boho trend a Western-inspired treatment with a head-to-toe denim look.
An extra layer is never a bad idea during this transitional dressing season. A true boho enthusiast will suggest denim jackets, suede layers, and cropped trench coats. While the English country style inspires barn jackets, some distressed versions can also lean into the boho aesthetic.
