Finally: Women Had a Major Showing at This Year's Pulitzer Prizes
🙌
The Pulitzer Prize winners were announced Monday afternoon and women took home many of the major journalism awards. The Boston Globe's Farah Stockman won for a series of columns on busing in Boston, beating out Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times and Steve Lopez of the Los Angeles Times. New Yorker writer Kathryn Schulz won for her feature on earthquakes in the Northwest. The New Yorker's Emily Nussbaum won for her sharp and clever TV reviews and, fittingly, she had the perfect response on Twitter:
Hot damn. I won a goddamn Pulitzer. Thank you to this wonderful magazine for letting me mouth off & think out loud.April 18, 2016
The Associated Press won for an investigation of labor abuses in the seafood industry, and the outlet's Julie Pace tweeted that the whole team of reporters for the piece was made up of women.
Of note: All journalists on @AP's Pulitzer series were women. Another coup for a company w/strong tradition of supporting women journalistsApril 18, 2016
Jessica Rinaldi of The Boston Globe won the prize for feature photography for a photo story about a boy living in poverty. And Alissa J. Rubin of the New York Times won for her international reporting on Western efforts to help Afghan women.
Congratulations to @alissanyt for her Pulitzer. Read her story on the legacy of Western efforts to help Afghan women https://t.co/uBMUhuK5vXApril 18, 2016
Cara Fitzpatrick and Lisa Gartner along with Michael LaForgia of the Tampa Bay Times won for local reporting for a series on failing county schools.
