Gwen Stefani Kinda-Sorta-Maybe Confirms That "Used to Love You" Is About Gavin Rossdale
Do you hear that? That's the sound of the world weeping.
In the event that a tiny fraction of your soul remains intact after listening to "Hello" by Adele, it's guaranteed to be crushed upon listening to Gwen Stefani's "Used To Love You."
The ballad comes just a few months after Stefani and her ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale, ended their marriage of 13 years, and the internet has collectively decided that "Used To Love You" is, indeed, about their breakup.
Stefani was asked about the song during an appearance on the Today show, when Matt Lauer—who clearly just can't with the celeb breakup carnage of 2015— said "Are fans misinterpreting something here or is it all right there in front of us in terms of the song?"
Stefani responded pretty eloquently: "What I'll say about that, is that I've never put a record out where I'm actually going through things in real time," she said. "I wrote that song like a couple weeks ago, and then I sat in front of a camera in a dressing room randomly—not making a video—just to do some video for the screens behind me. And then it went out, and it was the video, and it's, like, all very real."
