TRESemmé Pledges $10,000 To 10 Female Black Hairstylists
The longtime Fashion Week sponsor is now accepting applications.
- TRESemmé will give 10 Black female hairstylists a $10,000 scholarship fund to attend cosmetology school.
- Applications are open between September 9 and October 18, 2020.
Yesterday, TRESemmé opened applications for their new Future Stylist Fund, a scholarship that will grant $10,000 apiece to 10 Black female hairstylists who want to attend cosmetology school. TRESemmé is also hoping to mentor the 10 chosen hairstylists through experience and networking opportunities. The longtime sponsor of New York Fashion Week is hoping the new initiative will help diversify both the beauty and fashion industries.
On TRESemmé's website, the brand states: "TRESemmé knows that when women lead the way, everyone benefits. However, there are many systemic barriers that stand in the way of women advancing in their careers—especially for Black women. That’s why we’re taking action to advance the careers of Black women in cosmetology with this annual tuition fund."

If you're interested in applying, applicants are asked to provide a 60-second video explaining how the fund would help their careers, as well as show TRESemmé a portfolio of the work they are most proud of. The brand plans to continue this college fund annually, meaning that anyone who is not selected this year will have another chance next September.
