Dermalogica Phyto-Nature Firming Serum
THE PROMISE
Listen, aging is a beautiful thing. It means you've lived. And, yes, some of those signs of living your best life will show up on your face. Fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots...these are all natural things you'll eventually be confronted with, if you haven't yet. Lots of these changes are inevitable, but you can control the intensity with preventative skincare, which is where this serum comes into play.
It's a dual-phase serum that works in two ways. The firming side uses sapphire-bound peptides to protect your skin from over-exposure to elements that break down the skin's youthfulness over time. It's essentially a shield reinforcing the skin's defenses. The lifting side uses plant-based active ingredients, like moroccan rockrose extract, camu camu, and madagascar green coffee bean, to increase collagen production and give you a "filler effect."
WHY I'M OBSESSED:
During a meeting with the brand to hear about the product first-hand, I was alarmed by the statistics presented. I learned that the environmental and lifestyle factors (i.e. stress, lack of sleep, diet, UV exposure, climate, pollution, and more) our skin is exposed to accounts for up to 50 percent of visible signs of aging. My lifestyle is certainly not setting my skin up for success. I realized I must incorporate a fast-working, active, anti-aging product into my skincare routine now or never. Yeah, it's that serious.
For a month I patted two pumps–worth of this serum onto my skin morning and night. It absorbs quickly, and it's a highly-active product so you can feel it working. This made me a little nervous at first because my sensitive skin usually can't tolerate too many active ingredients at once. But the result was nothing but positive: During Dermaologica's clinical studies on this product, there were visible signs of luminosity after one application. I can attest that this claim is valid. I woke up with beaming skin and was surprised by how supple and tight (but not too tight) my skin started to look and feel after each use. The brand also promises the serum will reduce the appearance of fine lines after one application and lessen the look of wrinkles after four weeks. I can't confirm those yet, but I do know that if you have $145 of treat-yo-skin money, you should consider this product. I'm planning to keep using it as I approach my 30s. (Gosh, did I really just write that?!)
